Basketball - The Great Haven For Egos and Idiots

Over the past few days, a couple of the most well-known names in the world of basketball have opened their collective mouths, and shown the world that they are in fact a couple of the great egos, and idiots, in the world of basketball.

As previously described here, the long-overdue resignation of the brain surgeon AD was a welcome occasion this week, as was the selection of San Marino’s only registered Democrat, Pat Haden, to succeed him. Is there anyone who could possible disagree with this change? Anyone who would, or could, laud the stellar work of of the disgraced mike garrett? Why yes, there is. And that person is: None other than Laker owner and celebrated over-grown preppy, Jerry Buss.

While the world, including the new sc Prez. and AD, have slowly come around to realize the extent of the criminal enterprise run by the garrett-carroll-floyd triumvirate, the good doctor Buss - who oh, so proudly wears his sc ph.d in chemistry as others would an M.D. from Harvard - has seen fit to submit his beliefs to the LA Times, who, strangely enough, printed his message in today’s sports section, to wit:

There doesn't seem to be much love shown for Mike Garrett and I would like to correct this if I may. I think in the future, the last 17 years will be known as one of the Golden Ages of USC sports. It is doubtful to me if we will ever win as many NCAA championships in such a short period of time as we have done under Mike. The football was fun; the basketball was fun; the track & field a glimmering of its past glory under impossible circumstances (the limitation of scholarships imposed on USC).I would also like to point out that for 50 years as a loyal Trojan, I prayed for someone with the ability, foresight and courage to attempt to build our own sports arena. This was accomplished by Mike Garrett even though there were numerous predecessors who attempted unsuccessfully to do the same thing.Let's not kid ourselves — things were wonderful under Mike and although I hope things will be even better under Pat Haden, I think we owe Mr. Garrett a very deep debt of gratitude.Jerry H. BussEl Segundo

All I can add is this: Had buss accepted comperable conduct from his LA Laker leadership and athletes, he would have been suspended by the NBA from any participation in the operation of his franchise, the employees directly responsible would have been removed, and the athletes involved fined unprecedented sums.

Then there is the case of the ego of Mr. Chris Paul, registering this week a solid
9.8 on the LeBum-Ego-Meter scale of ten.

What G-d damn arrogance! The mighty Mr. Paul wants to be a Magic, a Knick, or, heaven forbid, a LAKER?

By the way, isn’t he under contract to New Orleans? Why doesn’t that “no tampering” policy stuff apply to players who are under contract, as well as team representatives?

Well, Mr. Paul, with the recent moves the Lakers have made, signing Steve Blake, Matt Barnes, and Theo Ratliff, the two-time NBA Champs are just fine without your services, and, in fact, now possess a roster far stronger than that which, as just noted, has won the NBA Championship the past two seasons WITHOUT YOU!

The very idea, incredibly favored by many equally idiotic commentators, that the Lakers should break up their winning combination by trading the vastly talented and still developing Andrew Bynum for Paul, is absurd.

After painfully enduring the LeBum event (actually, I’m still nauseous from it all), who would have thought that yet another mindless ego would so soon emerge from the pro basketball world, with similar headline-grabing arrogance and impunity.

Come on, it’s BASEBALL SEASON with the trade deadline coming up and pennant races around the corner.

Classy Start For New SC AD

Mike Garrett was still wiping the shoe prints off his ass, when new sc brain surgeon athletic director Pad Haden began making honorable decisions not seen at the brain surgeon hangout since, ... since, ...., well, EVER!

After weeks of “Who, me”, “Why us?”, and “We don’t deserve that!”, Haden accepted the consequences of the Garrett-Carroll-Floyd criminal enterprise, and not only ordered removal of campus idolatry depicting r bush and oj mayo, but further ordered that bush’s ill-gotten Heisman be packed up and shipped back to the NY Athletic Club.

Without them even asking!

Kinda makes you wonder how long Lane Kiffin has before he gets boxed up and mailed back.

The More They Say, The Worse They Make It

Ah, for the good ole days when the prevailing sound from sc was silence.

The more the astoundingly arrogant uncle petey has to say, the more ridiculous he sounds, and likely the more the good folk in Seattle are having second thoughts, and I’m sure the more the dunderheads at 60 Minutes would like to burn the film of their blubbery tribute to the impeccable mr carroll from a year and a half ago (see my post “60 Minutes Disgrace - Pete Carroll Love Fest”, Dec. 14, 2008). The arrogance of this idiot - to again come out and say he had neither knowledge of the special treatment afforded his star players, nor of the total lack of institutional oversight of the goings on, boggles the educated mind, let alone the minds of sc students and alumni.

Even worse are the comments now flowing from the mouth of r bush. Lest you forget, the NCAA went out of its way to include in their 67 page report, the statement that “Bush and his family refused to cooperate with the investigation”. Now, bush has the gall, the arrogance, the audacity, to actually come out and say - while continuing to deny any wrongdoing, of course - that now, “all I can do is continue to try to help them and move forward with the situation.” Bush pledges to help USC fight NCAA sanctions. He has also said that he knows that he will not lose his Heisman. We’ll have to see about that.

For all you doubters out there, you have to read the definitive article, detailing the events of the bush-petey-timmy-m garrett years, written by then sc student and now ESPN correspondent Arash Markazi, entitled appropriately, USC turned a blind eye.

$$$ Rules at NCAA

The likelihood that the NCAA will now be increasing the field to 96 for next year's basketball tournament is extremely distressing. The current tournament structure, with the minor 2001 addition of a 65th "play-in" team, has been in use for 25 years. While I personally would love to see the field significantly decreased to only the schools who actually deserve to be included by virtue of having completed a championship-caliber regular season, the dollars the tournament generates have NCAA execs drooling for even more.

It is amusing, though, that they choose to ignore all of the arguments against a football tournament, in planning basketball expansion. All those arguments like not wanting "student"-athletes to have to miss classes.

I can just see a 96-team event next year: 15 Big East Teams, 11 from the SEC, and oh, yea, three from the Pac-10.

But seriously, the overwhelming fact that money talks at the NCAA does not bode well for those of us hoping that justice will prevail with the pending sanctions against the NCAA's biggest single money tree, the sc brain surgeons. The NCAA's long-standing history of protecting its top money-makers in general and the brain surgeons in particular, combined with two other recent events, makes one suspicious as to whether or not there will be a report that honestly recounts the sc transgressions and whether adequate and appropriate penalties will be assessed.

First, sc's signing a couple of weeks ago of Seantrel Henderson seemed to indicate some inside info known to the sc staff and Henderson and his family. That may well have been, however, intentional misinformation allowed to percolate, as the timing of the signing may have been more related to the timing of the receipt of Henderson's ACT scores, and just how low sc would lower their admission standards to get the guy in. The second item was UTEP's signing of ex-brain burgeon basketball coach Timma. On its face, his sob story to the media (Floyd "repeated his previous denials of wrongdoing, while praising UTEP officials for doing “their due diligence” in hiring him." according to Yahoo! Sports) would seem to indicate knowledge that things won't get any worse. If the powers that be at UTEP could have believed that there was any chance whatsoever that Timma could yet be found to have caused cash payments to be delivered to one of his players, would they have possibly hired him?

The next few weeks will show the world just how dishonest and greedy the NCAA really is.

SC Scum and NCAA, and, Oh, Yea, Bruin Disgrace

Well, according to the late Mike Garrett (about two monhts to go, at most), OJ Mayo has joined the NFL's second-biggest scumwad r bush in their failure to cooperate with investigations into their illegal activities while enjoying the cardinal and gold glamour and classroom experience (thought I'd throw in a good laugh).

It is well known that bush took his Heisman and ran to the NFL where he had to take a pay cut, and refused to talk to NCAA investigators and others looking into his $1/2 million in ill-gotten riches while in the employ of petey and MG. Mayo followed in those footsteps to the NBA and as ESPN and the Daily News reported, refused to discuss the matter, as sc self-imposed all those darling little penalties.

While sc fully deserves what it is getting for employing criminal elements like petey, timmy, bush and mayo, the likes of bush and mayo should have had the decency to try to help out the school that paved the way for their future careers.

On another, equally sickening note, I really misspoke back on Dec. 24 when I though I saw a glimmer of hope in the Bruin basketball team. We all knew the team would not be very good this season, but never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect the team to be as bad as the brain surgeons figured to be. Alas, the brain surgeons, who had been playing reasonabley well most of the season, yesterday wiped the Wooden name off the hardwood with the horrible Bruin team. This was the most embarrassing exposition of Bruin bb in my memory, and I've been atttending Bruin games for five decades (Six, if I ever suck it up and go to a game this season - can't even watch them on TV right now).

NCAA Closing In,... Petey Takes the Money and Runs

On vacation for a week, upon my return I was overjoyed to see that the top rat was deserting the brain surgeon ship, scooping up a reported cool $35 Mil for his get-a-way.

The NCAA cops are apparently closing in, and even if not, the civil court proceedings in the Crime-of-the-Century just received a major boost, with an appellate court ruling ordering both Petey and r bush to submit to depositions. If they lie under oath, then they should be prosecuted for purjury. If they tell the truth about bush and his family receiving more than $.5 Mil in illegal benefits during his last two years at sc, then the NCAA will have no choice but to strip the school of their 1-1/2 championships, and bush will have his Heisman revoked. On top of that, there will be serious TV and scholarship restrictions. Add on the Joe McKnight violations, and the major violations pending against Timmie and the basketball program, and the sc brain surgeons could be facing the DEATH PENALTY!

Perfect time for the cappo to take his leave, and his millions.

Question: Will Mike Garrett be honest with coaching prospects and tell them what will likely happen to the football program. If so, how likely will it be for a Mike Riley, Jeff Fisher or Jack del Rio to leave any of their current jobs to return to sc?

Oh, well, Mike, there is always Charlie Weis or Karl Dorrall.

Beginning of the End for Artest? We Can Only Hope

Do the Lakers think we're all idiots?

The guy that instigated the most despicable incident in NBA history, the guy who recently announced to the world that he used to down a few shots at half-time of games while he was playing for timmy's Bulls, the guy the Lakers sought out rather than re-signing Trevor Ariza, shows up with a head injury, a concussion, and a banged-up elbow, and they expect us to believe him that he TRIPPED OVER A BOX AND FELL DOWN THE STAIRS AT HOME?????

Oh, come on.

Where did this really happen, and how did it really happen?

And, when he was taken to UCLA Med Center, did they do a blood alcohol and/or drug test?

Stay tuned. I can hardly wait for the next chapter.

Poor Timmy Floyd, Picked on by Mike Garrett and the NCAA

The LA Times Sports department today devoted a substantial amount of newsprint and web space to the lament of crooked crybaby Tim Floyd. In the article, Floyd makes it sound as if he were the official scapegoat for the brain surgeon athletic department. Well, actually, that part is true, as I have written before. But, his assertions he is innocent of documented allegations that he dispensed cash for the benefit of former player OJ Simpson Mayo and that Mayo lived in abject poverty while attending brain surgeon u, are preposterous. Do a little reading, Timmy, and you'll see all that stuff about Mayo's dorm room full of high-priced electronics, not to mentioned the statements, under oath, made to the FBI and other governmental agencies, not just to the NCAA, by the currier you charged with delivering the funds.

It's all hilarious, except for the fact that the brain surgeon criminal enterprise is still running scott free, YEARS after some of the most egregious violations of NCAA rules ever described, not to mention possible violations of criminal statutes, and for that one bit of truth from Timmy's lips - that he and the basketball program have been set up to take the fall for petey and his band of money-churning reprobates in the football program.

Another note about Timmy. Professional reprobate, and so unfortunately a current Laker, Ron Artest has rocked the pro basketball world with his assertions that while a member of the Chicago Bulls, he regularly had a sip or two, or three, or .... of Cognac during halftime of games. A quick perusal of the record books shows that he was with the Bulls from 1999 to 2002. Guess who was Coach of the the Bulls during those years? Why, yes, none other than Timmy himself.

Yep, he's a great coach, an honest person, and he should still be in charge of a major program, or THE guy at his new location in New Orleans. Yea, right.

Timmie Out - sc to Search Prisons for New Coach

Illegal recruiting, payoffs to student-athletes, and the flaunting of assorted additional NCAA rules all suffered a severe blow, when mike garrett on behalf of the criminal enterprise that calls itself the sc brain surgeon athletic department accepted the resignation of basketball cappo Tim Floyd.

Floyd, who bought and paid for the best basketball team sc has had in years, saw former confidants turn stoolie as outlined here, and with the NCAA, not to mention the FBI, IRS and other assorted governmental agencies, closing in, with his top talent from last year all running away as fast as they can, and with his top three recruits all bailing, decided that maybe summer back in Hattiesburg may not be such a bad idea. (Does Iowa have extradition to the US?)

With the likelihood of serious sanctions being imposed on the basketball program, which is already now in shambles, the fear that the basketball team will be the scapegoat is even more certain. floyd and his program are the Red Cross, March of Dimes, and United Way all rolled together when compared to the outrageous conduct of the football program run by the senior cappo, petey boy.

NCAA: Garrett is throwing floyd and basketball to the wolves to save football. Don't let that happen. The outrageous activities of the carroll years cannot be covered up any longer, and the lengthy investigation we hope and pray is continuing, must result in appropriate sanctions.

Caught With The Goods: FBI, IRS and U.S. Attorney Have Evidence of Tim Floyd Cash Payoff

As reported by Yahoo Sports late this afternoon, the sc brain surgeon's jig is about up, with evidence that head basketball coach Tim Floyd made a direct cash payment of $1,000 to Rodney Guillory, the "runner" who allegedly lavished former brain surgeon guard OJ Mayo with all those fancy accoutrements that decorated his dorm room.

Former Mayo confident Louis Johnson has told FBI, IRS. U.S. Attorney, and NCAA investigators, all about the payment, a small part of the $30,000 or so in illegal benefits paid to Mayo during his short trojan tenure.

Again, local media, protecting sc at all costs, has failed miserably, and it's Yahoo Sports that is reporting what scant info there has been about the now three-year-old investigations of sc basketball and football violations. Their report comes only a few days after Johnson gave his account to the NCAA, but almost a full year since he spilled his guts to the federal investigators.

One bad thought, however, permeates the "flow" of information about the sc basketball program: Are things being set up for the basketball program to take the fall, with the outrageous criminal enterprise that is the sc football program, getting off with a slap on the wrist?

And Floyd had believed that losing Renardo Sidney, whom he thought he had bought and paid for, was the low point of the off-season.
